A Belly Full Of Food To A Belly Full Of Laughs!

March 7, 2017

What a belly good weekend! Rumour has it that most of Brisbane was at Adele’s concert while she is on tour downunder, but “hello” we had our own tour downunder and we decided to go on Safari! We were invited to attend the Newstead Food Safari and put our tastebuds to the test!  If you have a passion for cuisine, culture and history, this 4 hour walking tour showcases the amazing diversity of restaurants & bars in the area.

We were greeted by our host Arabella and first stop was Murielle Vuilleumier Swiss Chocolatier, and of course we were in chocolate heaven!  We got to meet the owners Mike & Murielle (husband & wife team) and learn more about their history & culture, and get a live demonstration in the kitchen.  They are the most superb artisan chocolates we have ever tasted! Our favourites were rocky road in a chocolate tea cup and the chocolate stiletto heel.

Next stop around the corner was La Macelleria a popular spot for fresh artisan gelato, where they use only premium and local ingredients with no colorants, preservatives, additives or hydrogenate fats.  It is run by two guys from Bologna and their one  dream was to make Gelato a real experience.  We sampled many flavours, but we both agreed to the Nocciola (hazelnuts) which melted in our mouths!

As we continued our food safari journey we visited The London Club located in the heritage listed London Woolstore building in Vernon Terrace. This venue is very popular and we sat in their outdoor alfresco area and indulged in many of their assorted hot and delicious savouries. Then it was time for some cocktails, so we headed to The Twig & Berry which is a hidden cocktail bar in Commercial Road and got some delicious cocktails made for us to sample.

Final stop was Phat Pho which is a really great little spot for authentic Vietnamese street food with urban style.  The hospitality was absolutely amazing as was the food!  We had 3 entrée meals including the soft rice paper rolls, pho chicken bowl and chicken friend rice (of course they offer the beef & pork options as well).  We were totally impressed with the flavour & freshness of their food, and this place was definitely one of our new favourites!

These tours are conducted by Foodi and we had so much fun meeting new people and exploring some exciting new venues, and they run many other tours including Craft Beer tours, Cocktail & Wine Bar tours, Chocolate tours, Southbank Cupcake & Dessert tours, Asian Street tours, High Tea Brunch tours & of course private tours.

After a full belly of food, we had to head straight to The Comedy Festival at The Brisbane Powerhouse to see Tommy Little, Good Talk.  And wow, we had the best belly laughs, as he was very entertaining and engaging with the audience. He literally had everyone in stitches from the beginning to end!  We love watching Tommy on The Project & Whose Line Is It Anyway on TV, but seeing him perform live on stage is an absolute treat and we could definitely have more nights like that… when can we hang out again next Tommy?  The Brisbane Comedy’s Festival is being held now until 28th March with over 66 comedians of the funniest people in the country, and we are so excited to be seeing Dave Hughes next weekend.  Don’t miss out now, and make sure you book your night of laughs at The Brisbane Powerhouse, and we hope to see you there!
