The Importance Of Protein In A Healthy Diet

January 24, 2018

Let’s make this 2018 a healthy year, to achieve that is important to understand the basics in a healthy diet.

Developing healthy eating habits is an important key of a healthy balanced diet. So let’s start this week with the importance of protein in our diet. Unlike carbohydrates and fat, our body does not store protein, so it has no reservoir to draw from when you’re running low. For our body, protein is essential as our body uses it to build and repair tissue, for example hair and nails are mostly made of protein.

Foods which are high in protein are eggs, chicken breast, lean beef, almonds, milk, cottage cheese and broccoli.

Always remember it is important to have the right amount in your diet depending of how active you are, but for a sedentary woman around 46 grams a day is enough.

I love including eggs in my diet, so sometimes for lunch I make a lovely omelette like this one.

The recipe includes:

– 2 eggs

– Rocket salad leaves

– Parmesan cheese

Lightly beat the eggs with milk, sea salt and pepper together with a fork. Pour in the egg mixture immediately and cook over medium-high heat, ensuring the egg is being cooked evenly on the pan. When the underside is golden lower the heat and add a hand full of rocket leaves with a pinch of Parmesan cheese and a bit of olive oil.

Enjoy!
