The Women’s Resilience Centre (WRC) Board is thrilled to announce Dr Gabrielle Morrissey’s appointment as its new Chief Executive Officer. Dr Morrissey, a renowned expert in support services for Domestic, Family, and sexual violence and community services, brings a wealth of experience and a profound dedication to supporting women facing abuse, violence, injustice, and hardships.
Founded in 2020, the Women’s Resilience Centre is dedicated to creating a future free from abuse, providing long-term support for women as they transition from domestic abuse, trauma and deep loss to full recovery. With the appointment of Dr Morrissey as CEO, Founder and Interim CEO Simone Allan will now focus on the national roll-out of two essential programs: the Women’s Resilience Centre Employment Readiness Program and the National Lived Experience Mentoring Program.
With an extensive background in positive social impact and community services, Dr Gabrielle Morrissey is well-positioned to lead the Women’s Resilience Centre into its next phase of growth and impact. With a career dedicated to designing and implementing innovative community services to empower disadvantaged minorities across multiple continents, Dr Morrissey is committed to enhancing families’ lives through creative and compassionate leadership.
“I am honoured to join the Women’s Resilience Centre and to work alongside such a dedicated team,” said Dr Gabrielle Morrissey. “Together, we will continue to build on the Centre’s mission to provide holistic support and capability-building resilience services for women in need.”
Dr Morrissey welcomes this next step in her career. She has been a strong advocate for the NSW statewide roll-out of the Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence (DFSV) program, “Staying Home Leaving Violence.”
“The ‘Staying Home Leaving Violence’ program is a critical step in empowering women to reclaim their lives without having to leave their homes,” said Dr Morrissey. “I look forward to furthering this mission at the Women’s Resilience Centre by providing women and their families with the resources, choices, community support, and tools they need to build resilience, overcome adversity, and thrive.”
Since its inception, the Women’s Resilience Centre has consistently developed capability-building programs and services, including Financial well-being, Caring Conversations, Rebuilding after Separation and Loss, Employment Readiness, and Mentoring. The Centre has also created the Emergence Program, a longer-term holistic recovery program.
Simone Allan, Founder and Interim CEO of the Women’s Resilience Centre, will now dedicate her efforts to the national expansion of two of these critical programs:
- Women’s Resilience Centre Employment Readiness Program: This much-needed service equips women with the skills and confidence necessary to secure meaningful employment. By offering comprehensive training and support, the program aims to empower women to achieve financial independence and stability and secure employment opportunities that will give them new meaning and purpose.
- Women’s Resilience National Lived Experience Mentoring Program: This program leverages the power of lived experience to provide mentorship and guidance to women navigating similar challenges. The program fosters a supportive community and promotes personal growth and resilience by connecting women with mentors who have walked a similar path.
“We are excited to have Dr Gabrielle Morrissey join us as CEO,” said Simone Allan. “Her expertise and passion align perfectly with our vision for the Women’s Resilience Centre. I look forward to dedicating my efforts to the national roll-out of our employment readiness and mentoring programs, which are vital in supporting women to rebuild their lives.”
Chairperson Ann Whitelock said, “On behalf of the Board, we are delighted with the appointment of Dr Gabrielle Morrissey. Gabrielle is a highly experienced and compassionate leader. I also want to acknowledge our founder and Interim CEO, Simone Allan, whose extraordinary energy and visionary capacity are a beacon. Going forward, I will infuse much into these two key projects, which are crucial in the Women’s Resilience Centre’s services.
