Cate Blanchett’s Brilliant Response to Sexual Harassment in Hollywood

October 25, 2017

Cate Blanchett had an epic response last night to Donna Karen’s recent interview about sexual harassment. The actress spoke out after Donna’s perplexing comments surrounding women’s fashion.

“I also think how do we display ourselves? How do we present ourselves as women? What are we asking? Are we asking for it by presenting all the sensuality and all the sexuality?” was the fashion designer’s statement on the matter of Harvey Weinstein.

Cate responded last night while accepting the Style Icon Award at InStyle’s gala in Los Angeles. While she thanked all the fashion designers she had frequently worked with, she also decided to speak out against Donna’s statement that fashion can be a contributor to sexual harassment.

“We all like to look sexy, but it doesn’t mean we want to fuck you,” she said, to a rousing round of applause. “No one says to Steve Bannon, ‘You look like a bag of trash. Do you want me to throw you out?’ But the comments that get said about what women wear on the red carpet — I mean. If you troll through those trolls on the internet, just don’t.”

“For me the true icons of style…it’s always those women who’ve been utterly themselves without apology,” she added. “Whose physical presence and their aesthetic is really integrated in a non self-conscious way into part of who they are, and women who know how they look is not all of who they are, but just an extension of that. It’s about women who feel free to wear what they want, when they want, and how they want to wear it.”
