Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2019 presentation kicked off on Sunday afternoon with a Sicilian funeral procession, church bells pealing as veiled, black-clad women held candles and made their way slowly up the runway. But this isn’t what made this show spectacular it’s those who walked it.
For years we have seen the same thing when it comes to Fashion Week- the industry is predominately “white washed” and filled with models who are small enough to act as clothing hangers. But this season Dolce & Gabbana produced a change for the better.
From the gorgeous veteran Italian actor- Isabella Rossellini, holding hands with her children and partner along the catwalk, 90’s supermodel Monica Bellucci, to Ashley Graham- Dolce & Gabbana did what many fashion houses are scared to do, and that is to showcase the beauty of diversity in fashion.
Age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and all kinds of shapes and sizes were presented on the runway, and the audience was delighted! Here is hoping that such strong positive feedback influences other designers so we can see change across the industry- #SheSociety sure hopes so!
