New Luxe Brisbane Label- article: Premiere Collection

One of the joys of writing about fashion is being able to focus on new designers and emerging labels. Recently Brisbane Designer – Elizabeth O’Connor- Cowley launched her new luxe range of handbags and accessories. Elizabeth’s name will be familiar to many as she was previously the creative director behind successful children’s clothing label -eeni meeni miini moh.

About Elizabeth and her vision

After raising her sons Elizabeth was ready for a new challenge. A self confessed accessories addict Elizabeth saw a need for quality accessories which could be customised to suit a client’s personality and unique style, so the article: Premiere Collection was born. I was thrilled to be asked to preview this amazing collection and speak to the lovely Elizabeth and  assistant Katherine about the range.

Elizabeth is an artist, as well as a fashion designer and her artistic touches are a feature throughout the range. She says, “ We wanted our collection to showcase impeccable craftsmanship but to also enable customers to customise their own bags. The brand creates ‘ limited edition ‘ and ‘ signature classic ‘ capsule collections of luxe accessories.”

What is unique is that the range allows the wearer to customise pieces with interchangeable and adjustable straps and charms to mix and match with the stunning range of pochettes and handbags. Imagine a collection of artsy -luxe pieces which blur the lines between art and fashion whilst morphing ‘ forme et fonction’ with meticulous craftsmanship and you have article:.

Elizabeth explains, “ article: owners become involved in the design process by assembling their own combinations to express their individuality and reflect their own unique style and sense of occasion.”

The article: Premiere Collection

Elizabeth’s article: range has been created using a palette of indigo, oyster, noir, silver, prussian (blue), gris ( grey) and ballet ( pink). Collection Premiere features a range of handbags that include the Tote, Grande Bucket, Hobo, Top Handle and Messenger styles, as well as a range of Pochettes that also carry a selection of O’ Connor -Cowley’s signature artworks. In addition there is a stylish men’s range where form and function is front and centre in a range of wallets, bags and card holders. Two beautiful wispy scarves in oyster and charcoal are divine and a grey toned poncho would prove to be a versatile piece, especially for those travellers amongst us.

Highlights for me were the tote which really was the most practical I’ve ever seen. If you’re looking for a new work or travel bag this one’s for you.The stylish Grande Bucket bag in all colours was an everyday fashion winner. The Prussian blue was especially eye catching and would work so well with denim and your autumnal palette. Every bag in the ballet pink range, which is one of my favourite colours, caught my eye and the very cool Grande Pochette in pink and black now has a new home at my place. Quirky, fluffy evening bags  were eye- catching statement pieces, as was the Handbag Top Handle, the perfect piece to show off on a lunch date with friends.

All bags were so well designed with inserts, a multitude of pockets, key chains, pen chains and so much more. Functionality was key in every bag and it was clear that Elizabeth had studied what was needed for the modern woman. No more rummaging around in a bottomless dark bag, inserts that can be wiped clean and more pockets for sunglasses and reading glasses, plus plenty of space for those everyday essentials. There were inserts which could be pulled out when you need more space and a range of three different leathers to compliment different types of bags. The hardware was sturdy and exquisite, specially designed by Elizabeth and very different to every other brand I’ve seen before.

Handbag connoisseurs will be impressed with the beautiful article: Premiere Collection which can be seen right here in Brisbane. The bags and accessories are practical, adaptable and versatile and the best part is they are hand crafted by a team of artisans using ethically sourced materials. To see this collection for yourself head to the pop up store which is in the arched porte- cochere at the ritzy new Calile Hotel until April 7 or go online to view the collection. Elizabeth O’Connor- Cowley has designed a range of accessories of exceptional quality,  featuring timeless designs and unique features which blur the lines between art and fashion. These bags prize ‘ forme and fonction’ and will be the new ‘go to’ brand for stylish women on the go.
