Going Back To Basics & Supporting Local Business

March 19, 2020

While large number events are slowly getting culled, there are still a number of small events that are happening which provide us an opportunity to support our local businesses.

Market Central Lutwyche is hosting a free Nourishing Kids Workshop on Saturday the 21st of March, alongside local influencers and Health and Wellness Coaches Shan Cooper (My Food Religion) and Sofie Van Kempen (Nutritionist).

Shan and Sofie have teamed up with The Source Bulk Foods, which is a new addition to the centre, to demonstrate how to fuel and nourish the big and little bodies in your life with affordable, delicious and waste free lunch box recipes.

The Source is a specialty store which promotes pantry shopping, where people can simply grab the quantities you need. Owner Rob Pollock says that this method of shopping is about ‘going back to basics’

“A lot of our older shoppers say this was how we used to do it 40 years ago. So it’s a way of going back to our basics, cutting out all the packaging and handling and getting away from preservatives and going back to how food used to be done.”

During the workshop Shan and Sofie will be using products from The Source to do a healthy lunch box demonstration, which will be followed by a panel discussion.

For Rob working with the girls on this opportunity is a way of educating the community about pantry shopping and its many benefits.

“We just really want to educate people to get involved in wholefoods, meal planning, preparation and food in general and their wellbeing. We have done a number of workshops with Shan and Sofie, and I believe the way that they present is very grounded, down Earth and they get their message across without overwhelming people.”

The activation is one of four, which will see the centre giving back to the community after completing almost three years of renovations. The activations are aligned with a competition where locals can win a share of $30,000, which can be used at the Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, The Source Bulk Food and Farm Fresh, all of which are uniquely located within Market Central Lutwyche.

With the three major food retailers in the one spot, alongside a number of specialty stores, Market Central is definitely cutting its way as Brisbane’s newest food hub.
