Today was about preparation and finalising the displays including final results by the judges as they continued their difficult task of selecting from the 121 final cakes. Winners will be displayed at tomorrow’s opening.
Some of my photos showed Master Classes in cake sculpture of an elephant, tutor Dorothy Klerck from South Africa. Another class held by Verusca Walker from Sydney they sculptured a motor bike. All cake and icing sugar!
Scotsman Paul Bradford was completing his construction of The Giant Wedding Cake and Zoe Byres putting final touches on her life size Alice In Wonderland. It took Zoe approximately 354 hours to create her display. There is so much detail in it and the more you look at it the more you see
Wedding cake section was incredible and most cakes completed for display.
Judging co-ordinator Greg Cleary was also inducted into the ACADA Hall of Fame last year and has a wedding cake on display in the Haute Couture Wedding section. The Chief Steward is Donna Williams and is in pink shirt in the picture with Greg.
Cake submissions come from all around the world. Brisbane has world leaders in cake sculpture and design. This is the 2nd year of the show and this year much bigger. Last year only a small event so have grown quickly.
