Melbourne is known for its amazing fashion designers, especially in the world of bridal gowns. My own bridal gown was designed by a Melbourne designer 33 years ago. Today , Aleem Yussuf is one of the Melbourne designers who specialises in bridal and couture gowns. His beautiful designs explore the haute couture techniques from the Golden Age of couture.
Aleem was first inspired to design by his great aunt who was a fabulous couturiere. After studying fashion and couture at the Melbourne School of Fashion , Aleem Yusuf launched his own label. In 2019 Aleem fulfilled a lifelong dream of showing in Paris. His collection of twelve amazing designs was very well received by fashion media and stylists the world over.
In 2020 and in response to the changes in the world, Aleem has launched a Bridal Capsule Collection called Dancing in the Sunlight, for the bride who is still following her destiny whilst facing all the challenges in life. Aleem has found inspiration in the natural world, from art, architecture, nature and music as well as his very own clients who are always a source of inspiration.
The Collection
Celebrating the individuality of every bride, each piece adds that extra magic to her special day. Encapsulating the feelings of dancing in the sunlight while navigating the challenges in her life, each piece is an expression of the beauty that is within.
Aleem explores the cut and drape of beautiful and exquisite fabrics that sparkle playfully, befitting the occasion. Featuring layers of hand cut organza and crystal tulle, delicate beading and embroidery, hand cut lace appliqué; flowing chiffon and georgette, structured dupion and gazar, figure -hugging and modern corsetry that is comfortable with considered support and shapes that flatter. Juxtaposing modern silhouettes with classically cut shapes and draped fabrics Aleem Yusuf pays tribute to one of the most important days in anyone’s life.
