Does it take the pandemic to remind us “to be excellent to each other”? Or does it take Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter in the soon to be released movie Bill & Ted Face The Music, (directed by Dean Parisot), to get us there?
For those cult followers of Bill & Ted we are pleased to announce it is that time again. It’s been almost three decades since American science fiction comedy film Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey hit the big screen. Prior to that it was 1989 when Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure began.
Back then the boys were time-travelling teenagers trying to pass history and win the battle of the bands. This time, things are different, the boys have grown up and are now back to set their world right and bring harmony in the universe.
Get ready for more exploits from William “Bill” S.Preston Esq. and Theodore “Ted” Logan, now middle-aged best friends who once again try to fulfil their rock-and-roll destiny.
Little do they know when they set out on a new adventure that the stakes are about to get higher than ever as their situation unexpectedly changes.
A visitor from the future warns them that their destiny is to produce the greatest song they have ever written and that only their song can save life as we know it.
Further to their anguish, they must create ‘the song’ in 78 minutes and at this stage their inspiration and ideas were at the bottom of the barrel.
They may have written thousands of songs before, but not quite the right one it seems. “Whoa, we have a destiny to fulfil”!!
Will they do it? The pressure is on and it is obvious they need help. In order to succeed, they work with their daughters (played by Australia’s Samara Weaving and American, Brigette Lundy-Paine), a new batch of historical figures and some old music legends. But as they find out, there is more to this story than finding a song.
It’s a good film that provides laughter, ingested in the seriousness of the plot. Keanu and Alex do it well, in a kind of dumb way, yet they really aren’t dumb. So … “how you doin’?”
You can understand why these films have a cult following. I enjoyed the craziness of Bill & Ted and the fabulous music makes their journey even better.
