It was our first visit to the Gold Coast casino in years and within minutes of our arrival we were taking the advice of an expert.
Known to us simply as Michael from Florida, he explained how to invest our money for the best result……and we were instant winners.
And that was before we hit the pokies.
Michael from Florida, you see, was a staff member at the Garden Kitchen & Bar at the Star Casino (it was called Jupiters when we were last there, which gives you an idea of how long ago that was).
We learnt later that the spacious, light and tastefully decorated indoor/ outdoor Garden Kitchen & Bar is one of the coast’s go-to places and we quickly realised why.
It was lunchtime and we were after something summery, light and tasty.
“M from F” quickly pointed us to the lunch special for two, consisting of crumbed whole Sole fish plus prawn and oyster cocktail (six of each), plus fries. Total cost $49.90 or roughly $25 a head. It sounded, and was, a bargain.
“M from F” told us the prawns were the “cleanest” we would get anywhere and they were. Beautifully dressed, pristine white and tasty. The oysters from Sydney were also fresh and tasty.
We took a little more convincing about the Sole, being wary of fish bones and knowing Sole had heaps, but “No”, said M from F”, the crumbed flesh peeled off with ease which it did.
We were sole..d, so to speak.
“M from F” wasn’t finished, though, pointing out that the Twill&Daisy Fiano would be a great compliment to the food.
We weren’t strangers to this delightful drop but had somehow missed it as we scanned the wine list. At $40 a bottle it was within range so “M from F” scored a winning double for us.
Finished off by sharing an ice cream selection, completing an enjoyable return to the casino, thanks to “M from F” and his fellow team members who were happy and attentive from the minute we walked into the welcoming atmosphere of the eatery.
The lunch special was available Saturdays and Sundays and for dinner from Thursday to Monday.
