Alice McCall ‘s clothing is always feminine and fabulous, so I was excited to be invited to their runway show, COSMIA, at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. To celebrate fifteen years showing here the brand gave us a glittering, gold theme with enormous gold flowers and ribbons waving joyously from the ceiling and enough colour and sparkles to light up the whole of Sydney. It was a happy, whimsical and colourful atmosphere just like the clothes we were about to see.
You may have seen Alice Mc Call designs on stars like Beyoncé or Kendall Jenner. Australian Olympic swimmer Emily Seebohm recently wowed the punters by wearing a divine Alice McCall sheer, floral dress to the races. Yet this label is not just for the young. Alice McCall creates pieces that are also coveted by those of us who are young at heart. Many of my own friends have looked their most beautiful after slipping into one of their pieces.
This show revived a bit of 60’s glam in the hair and make up and indeed some of the later looks channelled this vibe as well. Not one to shy away from colour, guests were treated to a veritable ice-cream shop of sorbet colours plus many florals which dazzled with sparkle and sequins under the bright lights.
The Fashion
Orange made a triumphant comeback in cute little bags and sparkle pantsuits with bright orange or black fringing on voluminous sleeves and pants. There were ruffles galore in long layered dresses, minis and shirts. A standout for me was the pale pink metallic skirt and top in a foil like material. The movement in the outfit had to be seen to be believed.
There were cute floral playsuits, shorts, tops, pants and dresses for day but also many party or race day looks with sparkles. Hot pink and purple wowed in a range of sheer dresses and separates. Purple will be one of the must have colours for 2020 and these beautiful designs were lauded by the fashion crowd. Light blue leather in classic 60’s shapes will be on every cool girl’s wish list, as will the high waisted flared pants with large buttons. Colourful headscarves , a la Grace Kelly , adorned many of the model’s luscious locks ramping up the good time vibe.
For a romantic , like me, there was so much to love. Alice McCall showcased their signature feminine looks comprised of ruffles, sheers, floral and feathers with white, gold, hot pink, soft pink, metallic pink and purple. Silver, orange, voluminous sleeves and cold shoulders were all on display. For your next party dress or fun 60’s inspired outfit look no further than Alice McCall’s resort 20- Cosmia. As Alice Mc Call says, “ she moves like she don’t care, smooth as silk, cool as air. “ A wonderful collection!
