We are huge Liam Neeson fans in our house. The Taken series was on high rotation when they first came out and for each new instalment we rushed to the theatre. The Honest Thief is vintage Liam Neeson playing the sort of role he does best. Why do people never learn that you just don’t mess with Liam and those he loves?
The Story
Tom ( Liam Neeson) is a lot of things, but two in particular: an infamous thief and a newfound romantic. His feelings for new flame Annie ( Kate Walsh) have inspired him to want to right past wrongs and leave his life of crime. Although he has always worked with integrity and precision, only carrying out non- violent bank jobs, he does not want his relationship with Annie to be built upon lies.
Tom resolves to turn himself in to the FBI, give back the money for a reduced sentence and then be free to follow his heart. Easy, right? Wrong! When he calls with a confession he is laughed off by senior Agents Baker ( Robert Patrick) and Meyers ( Jeffrey Donovan). They fob it off as a prank and send young rookies, Agent Nivens ( Jai Courtney ) and Hall ( Anthony Ramos).
The two younger agents are shocked when Tom is the real deal. He is the infamous In and Out Bandit. Instead of returning Tom’s stolen money they see it as their golden ticket to a better life. So begins a cat-and-mouse game where good and bad become entangled and only the power of love rings true.
There are explosions, car chases and shoot em ups aplenty with Liam growling in that gravelly voice we’ve come to expect , “ I’m coming for you! “ You know you’re in for a high octane crime thriller when someone wrongly accuses Neeson of murder. For those who love an action packed and fast paced tale of crime, Honest Thief will be in cinemas October 22. And if you’re a romantic like me it is also a love story at heart with themes of second chances and redemption. You will fall in love with Annie and Tom.
