A two year family vision has officially become reality with the opening of new restaurant Lily, on Brisbane’s Southside.

The restaurant is the creation of Brian and Cathy Fitzgibbons, owners of iconic Brisbane venues, the Osbourne Hotel in Fortitude Valley and The Glen Hotel at Eight Mile Plains.

Lily sits alongside The Glen, in Gaskell Street, Eight Mile Plains.

As the third generation in a family of successful hoteliers, the Fitzgibbons’  have paid homage to their ancestry, naming the new restaurant after Brian’s grandmother, Lily, who ran the Dining Room at The Daniell Hotel on Brisbane CBD’s Adelaide Street, in the mid 1900’s.

SheSociety was invited to a special evening at Lily, where we were spoilt with a three course dining experience, as we trialled dishes on Lily’s new menu.

Throughout the night, Head Chef Brad Casey, explained each dish (and his love for putting flowers on the plate) which made the food even more tantalising.

Brad has carefully curated a seasonal culinary menu using only the highest quality Australian produce combined with elements straight from the onsite vegetable and herb garden.

His passion for food was evident with his creations always having an extra layer just when you thought you had explored it all. This was shown when even the garnish on top were cooked in spice.

Overall, the food was amazing. The flavours balanced with each other to create exotic pairings, and the meals definitely did not leave you hungry with good sized portions served.

I’m a sweet tooth, so there is no surprise that dessert was my favourite, and when the double chocolate brownie landed in front of me I was in heaven. Paired with an in house made pistachio ice cream, it’ll be hard to find a brownie that beats this one.

With the atmosphere just as good as the food, Lily is a welcome addition to Brisbane’s Southside, and will be greatly loved amongst those who don’t want to travel to the inner city.

And of course, a visit wouldn’t be complete without indulging in one of Lily’s signature cocktails; the Lily Blossom or the Gypsy Queen. Both are sure to impress the girls, on your next gal night!

Lily truly is bringing inner city dining to the suburbs, as a local of this area myself it is definitely one I am going to be hitting up again.
