On Saturday Night, Wild Turkey Bourbon and Music 101 mentor Matt Corby showed up unannounced at The Paddo Inn in Brisbane, performing a set to aspiring musos dotted throughout the crowd. SheSociety, and those in attendance were invited under the guise that an award-winning musician would be performing, however none expected to be Australian icon Matt Corby.
Footage was captured of Brisbane-based band The Lyrical, taking the stage and performing some of their classic tunes for Queensland locals. Then, surprise guest and award-winning Australian artist Matt Corby joined the stage. The surprise moment forms part of Wild Turkey’s Music 101 program, an initiative to inspire and mentor aspiring artists.
The session was attended by Queenslanders who’d applied for the Wild Turkey Music 101 mentorship program which launched earlier this year[1].
After taking to the stage, Matt Corby shared a warm welcome to those in attendance and offered words of advice to the hopeful musicians in the crowd. With a career spanning over 15 years in the Australian music scene, Corby acknowledged that the best place for an artist to grow is on stage.
Matt Corby said, “It was so special to perform in front of and meet some great up-and-coming artists. Was great to chat about doing a performance like this and stripping back to just guitar and vocal, and what it means to trust your spirit and the importance of staying true to yourself and your craft.”
