Spring Racing Style With QueensPlaza Ambassador Molly King

November 2, 2018

Head-to-toe colour coordination and headwear styled with bows will be topping the Fashions on the Field style stakes this spring racing season according to QueensPlaza ambassador and stylist, Molly King.

Molly, who has styled and creatively directed some of Australia’s largest editorial and fashion brand shoots, tells us that it’s all about matchy-matchy fashion and a bold look for the upcoming spring racing carnivals.

Here she shares her top tips for a winning look – and ‘playing it safe’ is not on the cards:

1.       Colour coordinate to feel great:  We have seen this look on runways and at the Royal Wedding recently, and now the head-to-toe colour choice will grace our spring racing fashion events. Choose a palette of pink, red, yellow or green and blend down – without being afraid to show some skin!  The foolproof formula is to style a structured A-Line ¾ skirt with a clean strapless bodice that’s a similar tone.

We love the Rebecca Valance Mondrian Bow Dress available at David Jones, QueensPlaza.

2.       Wear the pants: Pant suits will be everywhere this season, as we see women ditch the dress for a tailored blazer and flare trouser. This low maintenance and confident look works well with a matchy-matchy colour tone as above, and a statement neck piece.

We love the Sass and Bide Moonlight Bay pant and matching blazer in Geranium and the Touchstone Ruby necklace from Paspaley in QueensPlaza.

3.       Headwear is all wrapped up: Bows and ribbons shine this season – either tied around a loose, tousled ponytail hairstyle, styled as a head scarf or wrapped around an oversized broad brimmed hat and tied in a bow. And the best part is you can get creative with this one, with raw edges and DIY ribbons adding a nice touch! Simply source the fabric that complements your outfit and cut your own shape and size to match the look you are going for.

We love the Printed Turban Headscarf from Zimmermann at QueensPlaza.

4.       Cat eyes and bold lips: Pair fresh, dewy skin with a bold lip in coral, red, pink or plum or alternatively, opt for a clean, statement cat eye. The tip here is to pick one statement feature to focus on while pairing back your base – simply apply light foundation at the start of the day and only touch up when necessary.

We love the Nars Audacious Lipstick in a variety of shades from Mecca Cosmetica in QueensPlaza.
