Kerryn Andrews-Conroy is a local Brisbane business owner who has recently opened the very first Stretch Studio in Queensland. Her new studio is situated in Paddington, Brisbane. After experiencing the magic of a personalised assisted stretch session I knew I had to find out more about Kerryn and this wonderful new initiative.
Kerryn is first and foremost a proud mother of two teenagers. She has always been interested in health and fitness and has always been a gym member, before becoming a gym instructor. While running two gyms Kerryn also found time to study as a mature age student to become an Exercise Physiologist. Now she can also add an accreditation as a Flexologist to this growing list. Stretching is her latest passion.
After many years of running ,then owning gyms, Kerryn has watched people set back their exercise programs and receive injuries from not stretching properly. When she heard about Stretch Studios she jumped at the chance to be involved.
“I actually started teaching Jazzercise when I was fourteen years old after my Mum introduced me to it at our local community centre.” So exercise has long been a huge part of Kerryn’s life.
I asked Kerryn about the sorts of people who benefit from stretching, “There’s no person who won’t benefit from stretching. It is for the young, the old, the middle- aged, the fit who work out daily and even more importantly for people who don’t or who are unable to workout. “
Kerryn agrees that there are many benefits to stretching, “Stretching improves posture, mobility, improves joint mobility which prevents arthritis and helps to ease symptoms of arthritis. It also helps with injury prevention and improves sports performance. It can help ease aches and pains, aligns the spine and even improve sleep. The list goes on and on.”
To relax away from the studio Kerryn enjoys, “The beach, weekends away anywhere and I love being at home with my family.”
She admires Malala Yousafzai (activist and Nobel Prize winner) and says, “What a brave and selfless woman!”
Her favourite quote is from Malala , “I raise my voice not so I can shout, but so those without a voice can be heard.”
Kerryn always reminds her son and daughter to never be afraid to speak up for something you believe in.
Her advice to others in business would be to, “Just do it! Go into debt, work hard and do whatever it takes to follow your dreams. Bite off more than you can chew, then chew like crazy.”
I asked about Kerryn’s dream destination, “That would be Hawaii. I used to watch Elvis movies when I was a child, when times were tough it was my escapism. I was finally able to spend some time there a few years ago and I went to the places where Elvis filmed the movies. It was like a connection back to my childhood days which could be quite sad but it did take me back to my happy place. I felt like I was at home in Hawaii.”
Kerryn’s passion for the health and the well being of others is obvious to see. After just one session any tightness I experienced had gone and I was surprised that I really felt the difference in my body more than two weeks later. If you’re interested in the benefits of stretching for your specific needs talk to Kerryn and she can tailor an assisted stretching program just for you.Kerryn Andrews-Conroy is bringing a brand new and much needed new health and wellness business to Queensland.
