Mini & Me Ball Raising Funds For The Starlight Children’s Foundation

February 23, 2024

Raising funds for the Starlight Children’s Foundation is one of the main goals of the organisers of the Mini & Me Ball. Brainchild of Joanne Fricker (Diamond Agency and Experiences), this inaugural event is unique in that it’s a way for the entire family to attend a ball together while making a whole lot of family memories. This traditional style gala ball will be raising funds so that seriously ill children can create happy memories with their family at Starlight Wish Week 2024.

Wish Week is when Starlight families from all over Australia gather together for a special group holiday. Life – long friendships are made, and families have a chance to connect with others who are experiencing similar situations. It is a much-anticipated break from the everyday for many of these families.

She Society were privileged to attend the launch of the Mini & Me Ball, with this brand new and unique event being held right here in Brisbane. We spoke to some of the organisers and found out it was actually Joanne’s 9-year-old daughter who had provided the spark for this idea. As her Mum was getting ready for an event, Chloe asked when she would be able to dress up and go along too, so the Mini & Me Ball was born.

Event organiser, Joanne Fricker had already felt the positive impact of the Starlight Children’s Foundation when her son Freddie was eighteen months old.

“We spent many days and nights in and out of hospital with Freddie (now 6 years old) when he was younger. Thankfully Freddie is now fit, healthy and cheeky. That period was one of the most terrifying and stressful periods in my life, but Captain Starlight made the regular hospital visits and tests much less scary for Freddie (and me).”

“I was inspired to create the Mini and Me Ball, as an opportunity to create memories with my whole family and raise funds to support the Starlight Children’s Foundation’s Wish Week 2024, so that seriously ill children and their families can make their own memories together.”

The event will have all the traditional features of a gala ball, designed to delight guests of all ages.

The Starlight Captains and mascot ‘Starry’ will welcome guests on the red carpet. Some of Queensland’s best live acts will entertain teenagers and adults – with acclaimed musicians and world – class magicians drawcards for the night. Primary school aged children are not forgotten with Batman and Wonder Woman on hand to entertain and delight younger guests.

Fundraising will include an online raffle with a silent and live auction on stage. Tickets for the event include a 3-course dinner. Adults will enjoy a five-hour beverage package and children will receive a mocktail and gift on arrival. There will also be a photo memento for you to treasure.

So, grab your whole family – the kids, grandparents, teenagers and friends for a night like no other.

The Mini & Me Ball is on June 1. It goes from a family friendly 4 pm to 9 pm at the Ballroom, Victoria Park. Tickets can be found online at miniandmeball and don’t forget to tell all your friends. By working together, we can make the world a little brighter for our sick kids.
