It's back to the Sixties as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Jacqueline Susann's sensational novel Valley of the Dolls.
The bestselling fiction book of 1966, Valley of the Dolls has sold more than 30 million copies - making it one of the bestselling books of all time (taking #1 spot on The New York Times Best Seller List for 28 weeks).
Deemed sensational and crude at time of release, the book deals with the sordid lives of three young women seeking fame and fortune in New York City. Susann based the vicious characters and outrgeous scenarios on her own experiences in show business.
Adapted into an equally shocking film which is now considered a cult/camp classic, Kristian Fletcher Events is inviting you to experience VALLEY OF THE DOLLS on the big screen - with a twist!
The concept is simple: whenever a character on-screen pops a pill, or says 'doll' or 'pill', you eat a jellybean!
Follow the prompts and enter Jacqueline Susann's world of booze, drugs and show business.
Hosted by Kristian Fletcher
Arrive early for pre-show 60s music and go-go girls!
Screening 4pm
Prizes for the best Sixties outfit
Tickets $19.00 per person

In Presence Through Movement, Kim Eng facilitates an awakening through the body and guides us in a harmonious synthesis of action and stillness. Using the ancient modalities of yin yoga, qigong, and tai chi, Kim weaves these three practices into a presence-infused flow, which helps to restore balance to your physical and energy body. This movement practice gives us an opportunity to observe, inquire, integrate, and release the old emotional wounds that Eckhart calls the "pain body".
Suitable for most physical fitness levels, these movement practices stimulate and activate the body’s energy channels, clear energy blockages (including the pain body), and increase overall well- being and vitality. Through instruction, meditation, and movement, we access and learn to sustain presence in our everyday lives.

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt in recent years, it’s that when Magda Szubanski speaks, the people of Australia listen. And we can’t wait to bring her to the Business Chicks stage in 2017.

Every July, the Teneriffe Festival enlivens and transforms the suburb with a bold celebration of the community and everything from the past right through to the future that makes it unique.
The event program is kaleidoscopic in its diversity, from historical to contemporary; from folk music through to punk rock; health and fitness through to cheese, champagne and oysters…. We strive to create a one-day event that really does have something for everyone – regardless of age or tastes. The Festival attracts 50,000 people, all keen to wander the riverside streets and hidden laneways, discovering our 25 musical performances and street acts, 40 local restaurants and food vendors, around 60 market stalls and displays, a glorious Kids World and dozens of community groups.
More than any other local event, the Teneriffe Festival defines our community’s personality. For over six years we have presented both local and international artists and personalities who guarantee headlines, and whose presence adds to the Festival's buzz and prestige. Similarly, we have partnered with some of the most reputable corporate brands in Australia and developed wonderful relationships with these entities that are mutually beneficial.

Hear and be Heard. My hope for QMF 2017 is that Queenslanders from all walks of life will find their voice through music and that the power of song will help to shine a light on issues that impact us all. I am passionate about creating transformative musical experiences for audiences throughout our state. As a
Queensland artist whose own career was kickstarted by QMF, I want to help the next generation of artists thrive. Across the Festival, talented Queenslanders will take the stage, standing proudly alongside world-class Australian musicians. No one does it like QMF – I believe our community engagement and education legacy is unrivalled. Our extensive program spans community, contemporary, classical and education events right across this big, beautiful state, involving a huge range of Queenslanders.
There are also many amongst us whose stories have been untold for too long. There has been an overwhelming groundswell of support from our many partners to help give voice to those who face significant challenges in their lives through projects like You’re The Voice.
To our many participants, artists, partners and communities, thank you for being part of this amazing journey – I can’t wait to hear your song!

Brisbane’s Jacob’s Ladder and the Metro Arts laneway will be given a new life this July with two pop-up art installations courtesy of performance collective The Good Room, designed to activate Brisbane spaces with world-class contemporary art by local artists.

This installation brings together 20 of Brisbane’s best visual artists - including Courtney Coombs, who has exhibited her work around the world and is a 2012 Churchie Award finalist; Naomi Blacklock, 2016 finalist for Perth Institute of Contemporary Art’s national Hatched award; and two-time Archibald Prize finalist Sam Cranstoun.

Tina Arena has been part of the fabric of Australian music and pop culture for the past 40 years. Her voice has sent shivers up the spines of three generations of music lovers from her early days on Young Talent Time, to her hugely successful debut album Strong as Steel, her incredible international success and ten times platinum Don’t Ask (1994), the multi-platinum In Deep (1997), and followed up in 2001 with the critically acclaimed Just Me.
A 40-year recording career by any singer is an extraordinary milestone, and Tina Arena is the only Australian artist to earn a gold or platinum certification for each of her original albums, in every decade since the 1970s right through to now. In fact, every album in her career has gone gold, platinum or multi-platinum.
Tina said, “Today I feel I have finally reached a place where I am 100% comfortable with who I am, and I am free to enjoy my life and my work. The past forty years have indeed been a journey from innocence to understanding, and I can’t wait to celebrate that with Australia.”

Openair Cinemas is back for another yearly stint of outdoor movie-going, and they're doing so with balloons and scares. While the annual event's season kicks off with Logan Lucky on October 6, their Halloween session is certain to attract interest.
Those keen on more thrills, this time of the mind-melting kind, can follow it up with Darren Aronofsky's must-be-seen-to-be-believed mother! the following evening; however there's plenty of other movie magic on offer for the six weeks up until November 19. Atomic Blonde's action antics, Kingsman: The Golden Circle's irreverent look at espionage, and Blade Runner 2049's sci-fi sequel spectacle join the classic likes of Grease in sing-along mode and perennial fave Dirty Dancing.
The 27-movie lineup goes on, and so does the rest of the fun, with alternative entertainment, live music and DJ performances also on the bill. As always, there'll be food and drinks available on-site — and not just popcorn and choc tops — and you can also bring your own booze-free picnic.

The Harry Potter™ Film Concert Series returns to Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Saturday 7 October 2017 with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets™.
Queensland Symphony Orchestra will perform John Williams’ unforgettable score, while the film plays in high-definition on a large screen.

Like beer? Like monsters? Like your brews named after creepy critters, with bottle, can and label artwork to match? Horror-loving drinkers, there's never been a better time to pair your beverages with your fondness for all things scary; however, October 7 and 8 will be even better than usual thanks to Netherworld's Monster Menagerie Beer Festival.
The inaugural event will bring together 16 yeasty tipples, strange creatures and stellar collaborations, all for two days of boozing fun. And if you're wondering why it takes place on October 7 and 8, just think about it for a second. 'Tis the month of Halloween, after all.
A lot can happen in five years. Two people can meet, fall in love, get married and then see their wedded bliss come to an end. That's the tale of budding writer Jamie and rising actress Cathy in The Last Five Years, which sees him share their story from the beginning, her start at the end and work backwards, and both sing about it.
Of course, a lot can happen in 16 years as well. That's how long it has been since the show premiered in Chicago, and then made its way to off-Broadway the next year. In 2015, it became a film starring Anna Kendrick. Now, Aussies Lizzie Moore (Kiss Me Kate) and Kurt Phelan (Dirty Dancing) are stepping onto Brisbane Powerhouse's stage and stepping into the narrative, in a production by the folks behind Carrie the Musical.
Catch their efforts between October 7 and 14, with the show playing Thursday to Sunday between those dates. And, if you need an added incentive, let an account of how Moore and Phelan first met get you excited for their on-stage antics. At a surprise party for Wicked's Lucy Durack, they both hid in a bathtub.
If you could learn a new skill, what would it be? Whipping up a sangria and paella feast? Making restaurant-quality cocktails? Perfecting the ultimate duo of layered Italian foods — aka lasagne and tiramisu?
They're just three of the classes on offer at Portside between September 27 and October 18, when the Hamilton spot rallies its retailers and endeavours to teach you a thing or two. Concocting a Greek spread of dips, salad and halva; getting fashion tips over champagne; discovering to make sushi — also over champagne: they're all on offer as well, with everyone from Byblos and Gusto da Gianni to Atalanta and Sono involved.
Throw in two wine sessions — one a blind tasting of six wines, the other dedicated to Moss Wood — and you could get a dose of tasty, educational fun almost every day of the week. Prices range from zilch to $125, and while some classes run multiple times, others are on-offs.

Looking beneath the surface is becoming quite the rewarding pastime in Spring Hill. And, climbing beneath the surface as well. Fresh from being transformed into an illuminated wonderland, the suburb's reservoirs will be the site of another piece of art. This time, it's a blend of sound, film and kinetic sculpture.
Don't be fooled by the rather plain name — Art in the Reservoir promises a creative treat over October 7 and 8. Open from 9am until 4pm as part of Brisbane Open House, it'll host a commissioned installation by artists Caitlin Franzmann, Dale Gorfinkel and Ross Manning. In keeping with the weekend's theme of exploring the city's spaces and considering its past, the work will ask visitors to contemplate the space's original use by evoking the memory of water.
Just what that entails will be discovered on the day, but attendees are advised to wear enclosed shoes.

The visually striking indie singer-songwriter hailing from South London is known for his confessional vocals and era-bending musical style. A self-trained pianist, singer and producer, Wolf is also a classically-trained violinist, harpist and composer, yet it is the imagination and ingenuity in his songwriting that have led to universal acclaim.
Jimmy Barnes’ highly anticipated new memoir Working Class Man will be accompanied by a special national tour.
Working Class Man: An Evening of Stories & Songs will be the sequel to the acclaimed and hugely successful live show Jimmy performed alongside his first bestselling memoir - Working Class Boy. Like that previous production, this new tour will see Jimmy telling his life story and singing stripped back versions of songs that have shaped his journey. However, unlike its predecessor, this live show - and book - will cover the Oz rock icon's entire adult life, revealing the successes and excesses of Australia's greatest rock ’n roll story.

In an era of 'fake news' and populism, freedom of expression and freedom of the press are under attack. This discussion, hosted by Founding Editor Julianne Schultz, will explore what this means, what is at stake and what can be done.

The Red Carpet Recognition Night – Celebrating Multicultural Australia. Which will be held on the 10th of November 2018 at the Brisbane Parliament House. In this year's celebration, we would like to show our gratitude towards all individuals who have supported our events in the previous years. It will be a spectacular night of cultural performance, fashion show, food and drinks.
Initiated in 2015, Red Carpet Multicultural Fashion Show has attracted more than 400 attendees and 200 models from 30 different countries. Red Carpet Functions aspires to celebrate the diversity of Brisbane’s communities and emphasises on the appreciation of its diverse cultures. Our organisation recognises that fashion is a common denominator among all cultures, therefore our Fashion Show highlights the traditional attires of the country of origin of our participants. This show aims to eliminate the cultural barriers among diverse groups and inspires our community to further appreciate each other’s differences.
Another important aspect of our fashion show is the focus on inclusivity, believing that everyone deserve to walk on a runway. In the conception of this Fashion Show, I invite all artists, performers and models to participate regardless of their physical attributes or mental disabilities. From February 22 - March 24, Brisbane Comedy Festival serves up a merry month of entertainment sure to have Brisbane gagging for more.
Audiences are treated to a slew of top international entertainers, some of Australia’s favourite acts, a bevy of Brisbane talent and emerging superstars with 75 acts across Brisbane Powerhouse, Brisbane City Hall and SunPAC.
Aussie exports Ronny Chieng and Felicity Ward, now based in the US and UK respectively, are flying back for the Festival with national treasures and hometown heroes including Dave Hughes, Tom Ballard, Damien Power and Becky Lucas also sharpening their razor wit for audiences.
Vibrant sets and costumes by the Tony Award-winning designer Bob Crowley draw inspiration from Victorian-era toy theatres, vaudeville and needlepoint samplers. His vision of Wonderland includes dancing playing cards, an eerily disembodied Cheshire Cat manipulated by puppeteers, and a slinky Caterpillar with 16 feet in bejewelled pointe shoes. Crowley’s dazzling designs are realised through puppetry, optical illusion, immersive digital projections and intricately detailed costumes complete with wild wigs and masks.
Joby Talbot’s cinematic score combines the familiar strains of 19th-century ballet melodies with theatrical flourishes like ticking clocks and the purring of the Cheshire Cat, and weaves around the action onstage as if springing from the mind of Alice herself.

Announcing the opening of Look at Mee Pop-Up Clothing Store, Sunshine Coast, Qld, Australia
Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast, Qld, Australia – Look at Mee announces the launch and opening of a brand new pop-up clothing store on the lower floor of the Sunshine Plaza in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, right next to Myers.
The grand opening takes place on the 29 April 2019 and, being a pop-up store, this temporary women’s clothing retail outlet will operate for a total of 7 weeks.
Not all modern women are a small size when it comes to clothing, and there has been a definite gap in the market when it comes to the availability of stylish, chic and beautiful clothing for the plus size ladies. Look at Mee fills this void, providing a range of trendy threads for the more mature woman who has a curvy, voluptuous figure.
All clothing to be sold at the pop-up store are quality Australian brands, and as an opening day special, shoppers can enjoy a generous 20% discount on all clothing in the shop.
As an added incentive, shoppers will be invited to join the Fashionistas Club, where they can earn rewards points and receive further discounts on online purchases. Members will also enter the draw to win a leather handbag valued at $185.
There has always been a genuine need for retailers to cater to the plus size clothing market for women and Look at Mee is doing just that.
About Look at Mee:
Aside from running pop-up retail stores Beverley, the owner of Look at Mee, operates a successful online eCommerce store. With a huge passion for passion and a real flair for current trends and styles, Beverley’s online shop has something every plus size fashionista could want.
Beverley knows first hand what it feels like to be shy and lacking in confidence, but after changing the way she thought about herself and changing what she wore, Beverley grew in confidence and recognised a definite need to help other women do the same.
With so many online shops and high street stores only catering to more petite women in the teenage and early 20s market, Beverley knew there was a massive hole in the marketplace that needed to be filled, and it was a great business opportunity at the same time.
Not all women in Australia are a size 8 or 10, yet plus size women need to wear clothing as well; and not just any clothing, but clothing that seriously looks great on them. That is why Look at Mee stocks clothing for today’s woman - Voluptuous Fashionistas!
Look at Mee is about dressing and styling the woman that not only wants to look good but feel magic about herself, oozing with confidence in whatever she wears.
All these fantastic clothing will be on show in the pop-up store at Sunshine Plaza, Maroochydore.

Celebrating the mindfulness movement, 108 Wanderlust events combine exercise, yoga and meditation for a chance to ground down among a likeminded community of vibrant and active individuals.
Teachers, musicians, artists and creators gather together for three events in 2019, visiting Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Tickets are now on sale.
Brisbane, Orleigh Park – Saturday October 19

The Wanderlust program kicks off with a pulse-racing 5K run, walk, prance, skip, stroll or strut, where participants can make it to the finish line their own way. Internationally renowned and inspirational yoga teachers Eoinn Finn (US), Donovan McGrath (US) and Michael Wong(UK) will take to our main stage and teach you how to maintain an inner body flow with the introduction of their unique brand of practice that has captivated our Wanderlust audiences around the world.
Everyone then joins in to clear the mind with a 25-minute guided mass meditation session. Experience blissed out meditation with New York’s Biet Simkin (Sydney and Melbourne). Not only has she been called the David Bowie of meditation teachers but US Presidential candidate and best-selling author Marianne Wlliamson says "Biet combines a fabulous modern sensibility with an illumined understanding of eternal wisdom". As an accomplished music artist, Biet will also bring her mesmerizing vocals to Australia for the first time.
