SheBrisbane had a chat with sleep deprived mother of two beautiful children and co founder of a national gastronomic event Bite Sip Stroll which is returning to Brisbane on Saturday June 3rd.
Tell us a little bit about yourself – who you are and what you do
I’m a co-founder of Bite Sip Stroll. We craft culinary adventures that allow guests to experience four amazing restaurants in one afternoon. My background is in communications so Bite Sip Stroll offers the opportunity to use my skills to deliver something I’m proud of and passionate about.
I’m also a sleep deprived Mother of two beautiful children, Eden (3 in May), Huxley (1) and excitedly awaiting the arrival of our third beautiful bub in July. It’s a juggle fitting everything in but my husband Joe and my Bite Sip Stroll co- founders, Ben and Maddy are all super supportive!
What was the inspiration behind the Bite Sip Stroll concept?
The inspiration came while living in Europe with my husband Joe. We visited lots of new cities and our favourite way to explore them was by eating, drinking and wandering. We’d enjoy a glass of wine here, a bite to eat there and stroll about.
My Brother, Ben and his partner Maddy enjoyed a similar experience. We all got talking and thought that if we could emulate the format as an event it would be a fabulous way to dine and explore Australian cities!
What is the achievement you are most proud of?
Starting Bite Sip Stroll has been a very rewarding experience, and something I’m proud of. It has been really empowering to shape and grow a business. I’m especially proud since it’s also overlapped with welcoming and raising our gorgeous children – my ultimate achievement.
Which person inspires you the most?
It’s not one person. I’m inspired by my family and friends – their intelligence, open mindedness, kindness, sense of humour, values, creativity and resilience. These attributes inspire me in general!
What has been a life changing moment for you?
The arrival of our first child really highlighted and prioritised what’s important. For me what it comes down to is pursuing / doing what makes you happy.
What drives you?
Being the best version of myself.
What has been the biggest business lesson you have learnt whilst on the Bite Sip Stroll journey?
Taking the plunge and getting started is the most important part, and sometimes the most difficult! Also, celebrate the wins (with great food and wine)!
What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given and by whom?
What I’ve learnt from those I’m closest to is to understand what’s really important to me, and make sure it drives my direction and decisions.
Quote to live by?
“Action cures fear.” It’s a quote from former Georgia State University professor David Schwartz.
What are your top 3 bucket list items?
A trip to Champagne, France with my husband, participate in a triathlon and take my family on a safari in South Africa when the kids are a little older.
What’s next for you?
We’ve got Bite Sip Stroll in Brisbane CBD (June 3) featuring Esquire, Moda, Saké and Urbane. Plus we have a Bite Sip Stroll Perth event (May 20) and we’re putting the finishing touches on our first Fortitude Valley later in the year which is very exciting! AND welcoming our newest family member in July – can’t wait!
What’s your greatest regret?
What is the key to your happiness?
Spending quality time with the most important people in my life, family and friends!
Where is your favourite place to long lunch with friends in Brisbane?
Anywhere with great food, wine and service. I love being outdoors, or along Brisbane’s riverfront – so each of the restaurants for our Brisbane May event tick the box!
What are your 3 favourite Brisbane cafe’s you like to visit when you are craving your morning coffee?
I live in Camp Hill so I love my locals: In a Pickle (Camp Hill), Jacu (Norman Park) and The Jam Pantry (Greenslopes).
Summarise Brisbane in 3 words…
Sunshine, friendly, home
