Our Beach-Bag Must Haves For Summer

December 15, 2020

After a long year of being practically locked inside, it’s safe to say that most Australians are looking forward to doing what they do best – spending summer at the beach.

And whilst this year has been far from normal, some things just never change and it wouldn’t be summer without the need to overhaul your beach bag and stock up on the latest summer must-haves to help improve your beachside experience.

We’ve compiled a list of our favourite beach bag items so you can promptly pop them on your Christmas wish list. Enjoy!

 Swimwear

There’s nothing like a quality bathing suit to have you looking and feeling your best for a day at the beach. In Australia, we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to beautifully designed, comfortable and fun bathing suits – and there truly is something for everyone.

If you’re looking for an ethical and sustainable option, brand Monte and Lou have a gorgeous range of swim and beach wear, all made from recycled textiles.

Another brand of swimwear making a splash is RAQ Apparel, designed for ladies with a D- Cup and up, helping to take the guesswork out of swimwear shopping.

And if you’re on the hunt for a bargain, look no further than Cotton On’s extensive swimwear range. With bikini bottoms selling for as low as $13.00, it’s hard to see a downside. As if this wasn’t convincing enough, Cotton On now has a size inclusive range, Curve.

 Hat

After you’ve applied sunscreen to your face and body, protect your scalp with the perfect broad brimmed hat. Wearing a hat not only protects your skin from sun damage, but also works to complete any summer outfit.

Some of our favourites include the Wide Wired Brim hat from Country Road, and the Open Weave Mid Brim Hat from Target.

Shoes

Whilst it may seem like a strange inclusion, you can never discount the comfort of a pair of good beach shoes. An oldie but a goodie, never go out of style with a pair of Birkenstocks. These classic cult favourites are comfortable and durable, perfect for any beach getaway. Whether you’re exploring rock pools, or simply relaxing on the sand, these bad boys will be the perfect addition to any beach day.

Drink Bottle

If you’re going to be spending hours at the beach, you’ll need to invest in the perfect insulated stainless steel water bottle. Not only will your skin thank you by remaining plump and hydrated, but you’ll be helping our environment by reducing the amount of plastic bottles used.

A few of our favourites include HydroFlask Australia, the Ceramic Reusable Bottle from Frank Green and Typo’s Gotta Go Metal Drink Bottle.

Sunscreen

Last but certainly not least, make sure to slip slop slap.

Did you know that approximately 80% of newly diagnosed cancers are skin cancer? Under the harsh Australian sun, the chances of developing skin cancer are even higher than usual, as confirmed by Australia’s Department of Health and Ageing.

If you want to avoid the greasy feeling that comes with applying sunscreen (and let’s face it, we all do!), we recommend Chemists’ Own Dry Touch SPF 50, a ‘Dry Touch’ sunscreen. It glides on with a light powdery finish, which is quickly absorbed into the skin offering full sun protection, as well providing long lasting hydration for the skin.

If you have kids, a great option that is safe for sensitive skin is Cancer Council’s SPF 50+ Kids Roll on. The formula is gentle, being dermatologically tested and paraben and fragrance free

A Beach Bag

And lastly, you’ll of course need  a stylish but practical bag to put all of your new goodies in. We’re loving Seed Heritage’s Oversized Straw Beach bag, which has ample room for all your beach necessities. Simply throw in your sunscreen, beach reads, sunnies and you’re good to go!
