Guns N’ Roses VIP Experience

On November 22, 2022, I was privileged to enjoy one of the best concert experiences of my life. The long postponed Guns N’ Roses show rolled into Brisbane and it seemed that half of our fair city had come out to support them. A sea of black flowed down Caxton Street and into Suncorp Stadium. There were lines twelve deep for merchandise and a party atmosphere in the air. I was here for a very special VIP experience hosted by the lovely Joanne Fricker from Diamond Experiences. 

Pre Show

Guests were welcomed at 5 o’clock to the beautiful Iris Rooftop Bar at Hotel X, for cocktails and a chat as they watched the sunset, before boarding the luxury transport to the venue. On arrival at Suncorp Stadium we were whisked to a spacious corporate suite and given a goody bag and delicious dinner whilst we mingled with friends, old and new. 

Sipping on champagne from Sirromet winery we were served a scrumptious grazing style dinner which included an antipasto platter, Queensland tiger prawns, pork and coriander spring rolls and lamb cutlets with couscous salad. Guests could also choose from a selection of craft beers, Sirromet wines and non-alcoholic beverages. The service and staff were so professional with water bottles at the ready and drinks topped up as if on cue. Nothing was too much trouble. 

Soon it was time for the concert to start.

The Show

We moved from indoors to the outdoor seating as the first chords rang out through the stadium and the lights strobed across the packed house. Fans roared their approval as Axl Rose, Slash, Duff, Dizzy and all members of the band strutted onto the stage. They warmed us up with some of their newer titles and we were dazzled by the true talent and dazzling guitar work from Slash, as Axl’s distinctive voice rang out. The crowd howled their approval as Axl belted out Welcome to the Jungle and Paddington residents would surely have been rocking along. 

Richard Fortus showed his passion for his guitar and was constantly on the move making sure all parts of the crowd were entertained. Bass player, Duff McKagan played with his usual skill and when he joined vocally with Axl the music soared. Frank Ferrer was thumping on the drums without missing a beat. They might be a little older but this was one tight knit unit who sound as good today as they ever did. 

Highlights 

The whole show was exciting and exhilarating from beginning to end, but for me and many in the crowd it was the classics we were waiting for. Axl Rose wearing massive rings as he played on piano singing November Rain brought goosebumps and tears to my eyes. From the first chords Sweet Child O’ Mine had us crooning along with the amazing voice of Axl Rose. Live and Let Die was a beautiful rendition and the whole crowd sang along to Patience. Paradise City had us on our feet dancing and Knocking On Heaven’s Door gave me a spiritual feel as I sat up high in the sky at this open air concert. 

The band played for over three hours and still did not seem to want the night to end. It was a truly breathtaking spectacle and will be very hard to top as far as concert experiences go. As we readied for our trip home supper was served, a range of yummy mini desserts. The luxury bus was waiting to ferry guests back to Hotel X for a nightcap but this weary writer headed for home on my faithful 385 bus, back to The Gap, where I could recount my exciting night to my husband. 

Diamond Experiences have several concert experiences coming up in early 2023. First is Elton John on 21 January. This is followed by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers who will play on January 29. In February everyone’s favourite, Ed Sheeran will entertain audiences at Suncorp Stadium on February 18.
