The Star Gold Coast’s Atrium Bar To Host Ultimate Drag Extravaganza, Thursday’s A Drag

March 1, 2023

Lights, glitter, and death-drops to land on the Gold Coast each fortnight for limited-time only drag shows

From 9 March to 20 April, The Star Gold Coast’s Atrium Bar will host its first drag extravaganza– Thursday’s A Drag – a line-up of fierce shows from local and national drag stars, including RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under alum Karen From Finance, Molly Poppinz, Spankie Jackzon and Maxi Shield alongside superstar MC and Queenslander drag legend, Beverly Kills.

For four nights only, the ladies will own the stage for an evening of jaw-dropping fashion, iconic lip-syncs, and sickening performances, followed by performances from local talent as the cherries on top of the high-energy show.

Drag darling and host of this glamourous event, Beverly Kills, says the phrase Thursday’s A Drag will have a whole new meaning, with the show promising a packed evening of entertainment, hilarity, and fun.

“Sure, you’ve seen performers play with whips and fire, but have you seen a 6’5″ drag queen swallow fire while wearing two wigs, six metric tonnes of cosmetics, and a fully rhinestone catsuit to the tune of Kylie Minogue? No, you haven’t, and I bet my wig it can get crazier if you dare us!” Beverly said.

“The show is made to be fun for the audience. Dancing and singing are beyond encouraged, and I know every single guest at the Atrium Bar will leave with the biggest smile they’ve had.”

Joining Beverly as a debut headliner for the first event only on Thursday 9 March is Australia’s favourite corporate queen, Karen From Finance, who promises a highly aesthetic and engaging show.

“Everyone knows that Karen always brings the campery. HIGH campery! We’ll all be laughing together, singing along together, and getting SUPER silly!” Karen said.

“For years I’ve been touring nightclubs with short five-minute acts – and I’ve had a blast. Having toured my full hour one-woman show however, has given me an incredible opportunity to deep dive into my character and opened up so many doors for me to deepen both my understanding and celebration of Karen From Finance, as well as the audiences”.

Beverly is thrilled to be bringing drag to the Gold Coast and says it will be an invaluable opportunity to cement its place in the spotlight.

“What I’m most excited for is to bring drag to a really glamorous location. Drag historically is underground and on the fringe of what people see as ‘normal’. However, recent years has seen drag performance and the queer arts pushed into the mainstream – making it more accessible and positioned on a platform I think it deserves,” Beverly said.

With a complimentary Belvedere cocktail on arrival and delicious eats to order throughout, the ticketed event will see Atrium Bar transform into a boisterous and glitter-filled setting for guests to come ready to slay each fortnight on a Thursday, with the last show on 20 April 2023.

The limited time only event expects each night to fill up quick and interested attendees are encouraged to secure their tickets now for $25, including booking fees.
